Can EMDR help kids? It sure can! EMDR can help a child process traumatic events and make sense of events and emotions they may not have the words for or fully understand. Using EMDR and play therapy, I can help children through: Single incident trauma Life changes Nightmares Managing emotions Adjusting to living with foster families.
Kids use play to make sense of the world and to learn. Using play therapy is a very effective way to communicate what is wrong without having to use words to explain it. Playing also taps into creativity, which helps the brain and body heal and can help create an environment where the child feels safe, happy, courageous, hopeful and calm. Using EMDR in sessions will kick start the brain's ability to create new neural pathways to easily access these positive emotions to help in healing and to help support your child between therapy appointments. I am offering in person appointments for children at my office in Eastlake on Fridays.
