How to prepare for a Telehealth EMDR Appointment

It is recommended to join the video session on a desktop, laptop or device that can be used hands-free with a screen big enough to follow on screen prompts for eye movements. Please  join the session in an area free of distraction. Headphones or earbuds are required to reduce outside noise and for the use of EMDR tones if desired.

To prepare for an EMDR session, it's important to be in an environment where you can relax easily. Some suggestions of items to include in your EMDR therapy space are:
  • a candle or incense
  • having your favorite essential oil handy or using it in a oil diffuser
  • a fidget toy or stress ball
  • a picture of calming scenery, or a picture of a loved one or pet.
  • a warm non caffeinated beverage
  • a warm blanket or sweater
  • toys or stuffed animals from childhood that you love
  • any item from your home that helps you feel relaxed and happy
  • pets are welcome as long as they don't distract from the session
